For the last 10 weeks I’ve been going to Slimming World. I needed a boost to my diet and because the gaps between hospital appointments were too far apart and didn’t put pressure on me to make some effort. And in 10 weeks I’ve lost 16lbs.
Since May I’ve had some personal issues going on such as redundancy and trying to find work which have impacted on my lifestyle. I wasn’t eating or sleeping regularly so it was affecting my weight. I wasn’t sitting around doing nothing though as I managed to get a job in a local pub and, guess what, I’ve been really enjoying it.
Going from working in a job where I was frequently putting in 12 hours a day and having no social life to working in a pub where everyone knows everyone else and they’re so inclusive has had a great affect on me. It’s also boosted my confidence a bit as I’m interacting more with people and actually saying ‘yes’ to going out and doing things. I’ve recently started a full-time position but I’m able to keep working at the pub as well which I’m extremely grateful for. It’s a lifeline, well, to a life.
Anyway, I decided that I needed a kick in the arse with the weight loss so I joined Slimming World. I was already being more active working in the pub than sitting at a desk all day so I was half way there. I’ve not had to change my eating habits that much either, just be more vigilant of what I’m eating and when. And it’s working. It’s all the little things I’m changing that are making the difference and pointing me in the right direction.
Last week was the first time in 18 years that I actually wore size 18 trousers. When I started university I was a size 18 and then it just went up and up and up. I’ve always said that I don’t have an ideal weight but an ideal size. I’d like to go into a regular high street shop and choose something off the rail. And I think I’m getting there. I’ve had my 1/2st certificate, my 1st certificate and I even got Slimmer of The Month in July.
I also wanted to point out the reasoning behind the title of this blog – it’s from Little Things by One Direction (written by Ed Sheeran). While I’m by no means a Directioner, I absolutely love the lyrics in this song. Check out the full lyrics and listen to the song if you haven’t already.
You never want to know how much you weigh
You still have to squeeze into your jeans
But you’re perfect to me
